Why the LIGHT House?
That's me (Deborah Yaffee), my husband (Chef Marty) and a sweet photo of Shelburne Falls taken by local artist, John Sandalbach. I love this photo for its Rainbow, holding our little town in a promise after a big thunderstorm.
On August 28, 2011, Hurricane Irene roared through our tiny town in western Massachusetts. The Deerfield River raged and the high, dirty waters devastated a great deal of homes and forest area in western Massachusetts and Vermont. Especially hard hit were the small businesses in our little village of Shelburne Falls. The Bridge of Flowers, though threatened, came through the storm intact.
The business that my husband and I had so tenderly nurtured was completely lost to the storm. As I walked through town, in the days and weeks following the storm, I marveled at the strength and resiliency of the local shop-owners as they moved quickly to clean up, rebuild, or find new spaces to offer their wares and services.
Some of them were unable to raise the funds to rebuild..they sold their buildings to others who came in and created something new and wonderful out of the waterlogged properties. Some were able to salvage their shops and buildings. Some went on to create new versions of their stores in new locations in town. And we, my husband and I, became business nomads, offering our cooking and health products, services and classes in and around Shelburne Falls and Greenfield with only the Path itself to call "home".
While I continue to enjoy my work with nutrition and hypnosis for health and healing, the mighty and humbling Irene had made me realize that what brought us all through the storm and into recovery and thriving was not outside us...it was what was inside: it was the LIGHT!
And so I decided that I would like to share the metaphysical and wisdom learnings and pracitces that have been a beacon of LIGHT in my life for a good many years. If you are a Traveller on the Spiritual Path, the LIGHT will guide you safely Home.
